Excerpts from the Bowels of Books....(3)
16-1-2018
We generally think that failure dissuades us from continuing to work to achieve our goals in this life, but for failure to be constructive (emphasized on the nun) is what I found a comprehensive explanation of in my reading of the book "
Failing Forward .....Turning Mistakes into a Bridge to Success.."
(Failing Forward, Turning Mistakes
into Stepping Stones for Success)
by — John C. Maxwell
I cite some excerpts of the book reviewers’ opinions in presenting Mr. Maxwell’s book; I include some of them for benefit:
" Failure is the distinguishing characteristic of success- without failure – there would be no great successes"- David Anderson-
" Failure is the price we pay to achieve success" David Jeremiah
"The key to overcoming failure does not depend on changing your circumstances but on changing yourself" Dev Dransky
" Life is not having new cards, but playing poorly dealt cards skillfully" a Danish proverb
" Man is not defeated by his opponents, but he is defeated by himself"
Jean Christian Smets
"The real and lasting limitations are those that exist in our minds, not in our bodies" Roger Crawford
" It is easy for a man to avoid responsibility, but it is difficult to avoid the consequences of his responsibilities" Sir Josiah Stamp
" To excel, you must do what you do best"
Many who suffer from chronic failure do so because they think of no one but themselves.Maxwell –the author of the book – explains to us how to deal with our failures and turn them into success, and he set out fifteen points in his work for turning failure into success:
(Know that there is one fundamental difference between ordinary people and achievers, learn a new definition of failure, eliminate the “you” in failure, do something and reduce your fear, change your response to failure by accepting responsibility, do not allow external failure to creep into your inner self, say goodbye to yesterday, change yourself and your world will change, care for those around you, surpass yourself and begin giving, discover the benefit in every bad experience, if you truly succeed at first, try something harder, learn from the bad experience and make it a good lesson, work on the weaknesses that weaken you, understand that there is not a huge difference between failure and success, rise up, overcome failure, continue working).
And a person needs seven abilities to make failure constructive according to what is stated in Maxwell’s book: including:
(Successful people refuse rejection, successful people see failure as temporary, and a temporary event, successful people expect with realistic expectations, successful people focus on strengths, successful people diversify their approaches to achievement, successful people rebound) --
That you step forward three steps and retreat two steps, the equation is that you have taken one step forward-
And it is clear that this book pertains to individuals of all kinds at different levels and genders, including business leaders and political leaders......
