A personal reflection that links the author's morning tea flavored with Palestinian za'atar to political developments affecting Palestinian land, Arab responses to US policy, and Palestinian resilience.

Palestinian za'atar
This post was published on 30-12-2017 - my Facebook page
This morning... I drank a cup of tea that I like, Iraqi recipe... to which I added a sprig of Palestinian za'atar... which we call in our town Azzun... Iraqi za'atar.. or Persian za'atar (I hope our brothers in the Gulf do not get angry at this name).. and in some areas of Palestine it is called Balat za'atar or Daq za'atar.. and in other areas Qarnieh.. as for its name in several areas of Palestine... Zaytman... and there may be names in other parts of Palestine that have not reached my notes..... I drank two cups... and what came to my mind was what is happening under the Arab table and on top of the American table in terms of draft laws that touch the land of Palestinian za'atar... For the American president Trump launched his election-campaign project... when he was a candidate before succeeding, when he pledged that he would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel... and move the American embassy to Jerusalem... and he fulfilled it... just as he fulfilled the tax cuts in America.. and he fulfilled them... and he spoke in his campaign about the Gulf countries and especially Saudi Arabia when he referred to them as a cash cow... and that they must pay more... so that he could protect them... and he fulfilled it.. when he made his first visit upon taking office.. the first country he visited in the world.. before visiting Britain or France and Israel.. he visited Saudi Arabia ... and he milked them as you know the story exactly and declared from there after the sword dance with the swords drawn from their sheaths... that by signing the arms deal with Saudi Arabia.. he had created hundreds of thousands of "Gypsum" Jobs then the Jops then the Jops.....! in America... just as America did in the seventies and eighties by introducing terms like democracy and human rights... He continued his course .. to declare that Iranian terrorism is the number one enemy in the Middle East.... and that all countries must fight terrorism.. and he singled out the Gulf countries..
I do not know why.. the Gulf countries have a historical responsibility to combat terrorism... and perhaps because they have experience in what happened in Syria.. of turning the Syrian people's opposition into funding for groups they brought across the borders..!!! As for the Palestinian issue, which used to be the core of the agendas of the Arab summit conferences... long ago... and later was called the Arab-Israeli conflict.. then the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.. the Arab summit group did not fall short in proposing initiatives .. from the mid-seventies until today .. and Israel kept nibbling away at the land and establishing settlements and changing the features of the Palestinian land.. there was no armistice line or wall.... that it did not impose.. it did not respect agreements and initiatives... or pressures or the weaving of intangible relations with information... at the time .. then it began to release information and leak it to the media.. that there are Arab countries, no less than 9 countries... that maintain non-public commercial, security and other relations with Israel... and the number increased.. no, matters became public and groups and individuals who do not officially represent their countries carry them out.. and it was interspersed with visits by former security officials in Arab countries to Israel.. secretly.... but the Israeli press discloses them... clearly.. and the Arab press or Arab spokespeople respond that Israel practices false propaganda aimed at tearing the Arab national fabric.... True.. Could the mutual hatred between the Gulf countries.. and the raging war and the closure of outlets to strangle Qatar be the work of Israeli propaganda..... and is grinding Yemen.. the good, national country to the core.. caused by Israel…!
The teapot and I were lost in thought.. during this whole reel... but I did not find in this reel a firm Arab stance... regarding Trump's declaration... except what I heard of Netanyahu's comment on Trump's declaration that the Palestinians must be patient and accept the existing reality......... and Israel was asked not to be excessively jubilant about this decision.. and to be satisfied with the minimum of joy... and days pass ... and the Israeli delegate declares.. that any decision taken by the General Assembly will meet the fate of the dustbin of history... and that the United Nations is a house of lies... and I said to myself this house is one you created.....
And I thank God that the Palestinians cling to the remaining land of za'atar from Palestine... despite the settlements around them.... and that even if their means are narrowed, they are the ones who empty the roads and methods.. cling to their land and refuse to submit to any projects to divide their unity... and their struggle history that reached more than a century and a bit........
And afterwards I drank a third cup of cold tea.. according to English rituals... the owner of the Balfour promise..
I salute our wonderful people inside and outside.. the epic struggles... do not be weak and do not be sad while you are the victors.
Your morning scented with Persian za'atar.. no, rather with Palestinian za'atar... I have been long-winded, so I apologize!!!
