The Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile in Ethiopia
27-7-2018
- Yesterday in broad daylight, on a street in Addis Ababa, the manager of the controversial Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam was liquidated..since its construction began in 2011....under the supervision of the slain project director: Simegnew Bekele...the keeper of the project’s secrets...and the project’s goal is to produce a large amount of electric power...the Renaissance Dam...Egypt opposed the project from the start, believing it affects its share of the Nile waters that originate in Ethiopia...while Sudan announced that it does not object to the construction of this project on the territory of the source country..Sudan’s position condemned Egypt, which is bound to Sudan only by a bilateral agreement in 1959, regarding preservation of Egypt’s water share of 55 billion cubic meters annually...which Ethiopia refused to adhere to because it is not a party to the treaty..
- Egyptian concern continues, because the Nile’s waters are considered by Egyptians to be their national security...especially since the great Nile rises in Ethiopia, passes through Sudan, and flows into Egypt...Numerous negotiations have taken place between the three countries at the summit level, sometimes they agree and often they disagree, and talks continue periodically among the three countries, despite Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed having assured Egypt at a conference in Cairo on this matter that its share would be guaranteed according to the assessment of the technicians...Even though the French technical consulting firm entrusted with providing a report on the extent of the effect of building the Renaissance Dam on the shares of the countries the river passes through and the downstream country...the French report clarified the reduction of Egypt’s usual share of Nile water...as a result of this project....And although international law covers rivers and seas that concern more than one country, negotiations about it among the three parties often stall...Ethiopia considers building the dam important for the renaissance of its country, and for supplying neighboring countries with electric power...which was estimated at 6,000 megawatts of electric power, equivalent to the output of six nuclear reactors...Ethiopian technicians, led by the project director who was killed yesterday, affirm this, while Egypt insists that Ethiopia has no right to build dams that reduce the shares of the other riparian countries...
- Intriguing fingers operating behind the scenes attempted to intervene in these events and continue to do so, including Israel, the United States and France....noting that Saudi Arabia is a principal financier of constructing this dam as an international investment..the cost of constructing the first phase was estimated at $4 billion USD...but at the time rumors circulated that Saudi Arabia was supporting this project to pressure Egypt to ensure that Egypt follow Saudi Arabia in its Middle East policies, just as there were rumors about the United Arab Emirates entering to play its part in supporting this investment ...as if thereby completing the circle, in extorting other countries to follow new...prescribed policies..just as Israel tried and still tries, but with different tools and means...from convincing Egypt that the water for its citizens’ lips and the irrigation water of the Delta are in its hands and in the hands of its agents...and recently, the United Arab Emirates mediated a reconciliation between the two bitter enemies Eritrea and Ethiopia, and the reconciliation occurred and the two sides shook hands..after decades of enmity and border wars..and hundreds of thousands of dead.....and a few days ago the leaders of Ethiopia and Eritrea visited the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, as an announcement of gratitude and to publicize this gratitude...in making peace...between the two hostile countries..."
- Eritrean leader "Afwerki" shortly after his country’s independence, praised Israel, and the Israeli presence there is plainly visible in the economy and important ports and coasts...and Israel considers it a vital presence for it, to invade the continent rich in resources.and water..
- The project director was killed because he held secrets..we have not yet received what those secrets are..and so the man went in a sip of water...and darker times are coming at the hands of Israel and its new associates.....which tightened its control over Palestine’s groundwater...and imposed regulation on Palestinians drilling wells..who suffer from water shortages...because the next war in the world, as Israel sees it and as experts say...is a water war...!"
